The Department of Orthopaedics at Civil Hospital Ahmedabad, one of Asia’s largest government-run hospitals, is a cornerstone of trauma and musculoskeletal care in Gujarat. With decades of legacy, the department has evolved into a center of excellence in patient care, teaching, and clinical research. Backed by modern infrastructure and a dedicated team of faculty and residents, the department handles a high-volume, high-complexity workload that encompasses the full spectrum of orthopaedic conditions.

As a teaching department under B.J. Medical College, the unit is committed to shaping the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons while serving a large, diverse patient population from across Gujarat and neighboring states.

 Clinical Services Overview

The department caters to both elective and emergency orthopaedic services, including:

 1. Trauma and Fracture Management

          •        High-volume trauma unit with 24×7 emergency coverage

          •        Management of complex fractures, polytrauma, and open injuries

          •        Use of external fixators, interlocking nails, plates, and minimally invasive procedures

2. Arthroplasty

          •        Total hip and knee replacement surgeries

          •        Revision joint replacement for infected or failed prostheses

          •        Fast-track rehab programs post-surgery

 

 3. Spine Surgery

          •        Surgical correction of scoliosis, kyphosis

          •        Management of spinal TB, disc prolapse, canal stenosis, trauma

 4. Pediatric Orthopaedics

          •        Clubfoot (Ponseti method and surgical correction)

          •        Developmental dysplasia of hip

          •        Deformity correction surgeries

 5. Sports Injury & Arthroscopy
