Department is one of oldest and pioneer for running undergraduate and postgraduate course in the country with more than 75 years of legacy. Department run in the Woman, Child and Super specialty Hospital wing of Civil Hospital Ahmedabad and its provide comprehensive, holistic approach and treatment to children of not only Gujarat state but also children of nearby state daily 24 X 7 including Sunday and holidays. It is apex centre for treatment of Children of Gujarat state with more than 87000 annual Outpatient department patients, more than 19000 annual indoor admission and 18 postgraduate student intake per year. Department provide almost all treatment free of cost by Government of Gujarat under various schemes. Department run largest NICU/SNCU of state of 120 beds for critically ill newborns of state and adjacent state and also provide free of cost treatment (including ventilation, non invasive ventilation and surfactant) to all newborns. Department has 210 beds for Paediatrics patients out of which 30 level III beds for critically ill Pediatric patients (PICU) and 15 beds for Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre for malnourished children. Department runs daily OPD for outpatient treatment and various Speciality and superspecilaty clinic from Monday to Saturday. Department has State Newborn Centre of Excellence of state where department organizes various training program like FBNC (Facility Base Newborn Care), BEMOC, FIMNCI, KMC Training (Kangaroo Mother Care), Basic and Advance Neonatal Resuscitation Training, Basic Life Support and Advance Life support training program for various State Faculty, Paediatrician, Medical Officer and Staff Nurse.

  • Department provide all pediatric and neonatal emergency services daily.
  • Outpatient – OPD Treatment Daily (more than 87000 annual OPD)
  • Inpatient – Indoor Patient treatment Daily (more than 19000 Indoor Admission)
  • Level III - Intensive care treatment to critically ill Newborns including ventilation and non invasive ventilation - NICU
  • Level III - Intensive care treatment of critically ill Pediatric patients – PICU
  • Immunization services to all children Daily.
  • Nutritional Rehabilitation centre(NRC) for severely malnourished children with more than 300 annual admission
  • District Early intervention centre(DEIC) for early identification and treatment of developmental delay, defects,  deficiencies, hearing & visual problems and managing almost 1000 children monthly
  • Comprehensive management and counselling  of  HIV positive children
  • Day care treatment of Thalassemia patients including iron chelation
  • Day care treatment of Sickle cell anemia and haemophilia
  • Free of cost treatment of children under  various government schemes like JSSK, RBSK, School Health, BPL and PMJAY
  • Department provide free of cost facility for transport of discharged children from hospital to their home under KHILKHILAT for infants age less than 1 year. 
  • Department organised community awareness programme for promotion of breastfeeding and kangaroo mother care, control of diarrhoeal disease, prevention of malnutrition, Adolescent week, Newborn week,  adequate and optimum nutrition advise for mother and children
  • Department has State Newborn Centre of Excellence of state where department organizes various training program like FBNC (Facility Base Newborn Care), KMC Training (Kangaroo Mother Care), Basic and Advance Neonatal Resuscitation Training, Infant & Child Basic and Advance Life support program, management of COVID-19 in children training, basic and comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care training, DAKSHTA training for various State Faculty, Paediatrician, Medical Officer and Staff Nurse.   • Department conduct various research programme which helps for providing better treatment to children and neonates. Results of these research programmes are published in various international and national journals and also presented in various conferences.
